The Sonnet is about the inevitable page of time and that there is no way to take a stand against time except by having children (part of you is ped on in your children). It is a very sombre sonnet. One of the best ways to understand a sonnet or poem is to take each line and look at the denotations (dictionary meaning) and connotations (what the words suggest) and work your way through the sonnet.
