What style or technique of tattooing will last forever?

i see certain styles of tattoos and i can almost put a date on them as they seemed to have come and gone. what style do you consider the most clic? (i actually asked the opposite to this question, wanting to know what tattoo styles are trendy at the moment, but that upset the teenagers from the trailer park too much so i didn't get my answer and i'm rephrasing it.)
