Are there any texts(Vedas, Puran, Bhagwad Geeta) that prohibit a girl from having before marriage?

I'm a religious studies scholar and after seeing the relationship between society and religion, I'm wondering what is the deal with virgins and marriage! Especially in the Hindu culture. I'd like to know whether anyone has any idea about before marriage that is mentioned in any Indian text. Tantra doesn't really count, but it does encourage using the body to liberate oneself from the body. So please help me out, and let me know whether this thing is a social taboo or a religious one for a good reason:)
